Gib-47 is used to reduce russet in russet prone apple varieties and reduce splitting in Nashi and cherries. Gib-47 is believed to act by increasing elasticity and production of the outer epidermal cells. Russeting in apples is associated with skin damage due to prolonged wetness, low temperatures or imbalances in skin growth during the early season.
